A GREAT MILAN

Adriano Galliani and Leonardo hailed the great night of Milan. Against Sampdoria the Rossoneri had a great game and a team with a precise identy. The imperative now is to continue like this.

MILAN – Following the win against Sampdoria, a happy Adriano Galliani commented like this the Rossoneri’s evening. ”I’m happy for this great evening, happy that our president had the opportunity to see a great Milan, Im very pleased when he frees himself from the political commitments and comes to watch Milan. Silvio Berlusconi tonight saw his team, the one who maintains control of the game and hides the ball from its opponents, he was very happy about this and told it also to the players in the dressing room. It’s also nice that our fans are getting closer to the team, but after all, the great game of this Milan helps in this sense. After Adriano Galliani, it’s Leonardo who comments the great Rossoneri’s performance: “Our secret was the half time of Roma, so better not speak about it. Today we live a happy moment, today we played an extraordinary game with a perfect approach and with great continuity in the way we play. We then managed the second half perfectly, but in the first half of the game we were really cynical and deadly. The nicest thing of this team is seeing how things happen. Clarence’s goal, for example, is of an absolute perfection. The road is still long, we must be able day after day to give continuity to our results.”

FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS MILAN!

Alexandre Pato experiences the Rossoneri's good moment with great enthusiasm. The Brazilian feels like an important element of a great group that looks for the support of all the fans.

MILANELLO - Alexandre Pato is a happy lad. His Milan gave spectacle and he, along with his great friend Ronaldinho, scored and delighted the crowd. Ahead of the departure for Zurich the Rossoneri's bomber commented as follows the Rossoneri's good moment:

"Our secret is the great group, we are all very close. When I arrived at Milan they told me that I was entering a great family and today I can truly say it's all true. We are united and we form a great team and we all have a desire to do well. Take my friend Antonini, yesterday against Samp he played a great match, at the start of the season he suffered, now he has to give us a hand also against Zurich. In Switzerland we are playing a fundamental match but I'm sure this group will start to win and with a desire to give a great performance."

Alexandre then talked about the match with Sampdoria:

"We played a great match, in the first half we were great and hit our opponents with three quick goals, then in the second half we administered the match with a good ball possession. Coach Leonardo had explained us well how to face the opponent advising us to play wide near the lines. We trained very well throughout the week and in the match we reaped the benefits of our work. I score and I'm happy, celebrating in front of the fans is incredible, a great emotion. We also play for them because we know that if their support will be always greater, we will do great things. Where I prefer to play? In this Milan it makes no difference, I just want to play and whether I play on the left or on the right doesn't matter much. In this Milan I'm happy and have fun."

Paolo Maldini Advises AC Milan To Focus On Champions League

Former Milan captain Paolo Maldini thinks the Rossoneri aren't made for Serie A...

Nov 17, 2009 10:02:14 PM
After a torrid start to the season, AC Milan are currently riding a seven match unbeaten streak in Serie A, but still sit seven points behind leaders Inter.

There's still considerable scepticism from many corners regarding the Rossoneri's chances of competing for the Scudetto, and this sentiment is shared by recently retired Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

"They won't do much in the league because they aren't a regular team," he said, speaking to Marca. "They can win or lose against anyone. In the Champions League we will see..."

Maldini isn't too optimistic about the future, saying, "They need to make some changes, but to do that they need a lot of money."

He then went on to compliment Barcelona star Lionel Messi, comparing him to another Argentine great.

"Sometimes he reminds me of [Diego] Maradona and he's certainly one of the best players I've ever seen," Maldini concluded.

AC Milan Legend Paolo Maldini: Real Madrid Defender Sergio Ramos Is My Heir

aldini believes Real Madrid's Ramos is best suited to become his heir...
Nov 16, 2009 2:21:35 PM

AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini believes Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos can continue his legacy by becoming the world's best defender.

Maldini, who retired at the end of last season following a sparkling career, believes Ramos can take his place as he gives the Spaniard a ringing endorsement.

"My heir will be Sergio Ramos," Maldini told Marca.

"He is young and has everything to become my heir. He is quick, powerful and has technique. He is young and has plenty of time ahead of him."

The Italian's salutary parlance will be welcome at the Bernabeu, and he has also given Ramos some beneficial advice.

"He is part of a great club in Real Madrid. My advice to him will be to play in the middle of defence like I did. The secret is to train hard," concluded Maldini.

LA Galaxy agree to loan David Beckham to AC Milan Star midfielder will re-join Galaxy during summer transfer window in July 2010

CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy completed the loan agreement of midfielder David Beckham to Italian side AC Milan on Monday, effective in January 2010. Beckham remains under contract to the Galaxy and will play for the club throughout the MLS Cup Playoffs, which continue on Sunday, November 8 at 4:30 p.m. when the Galaxy take on Chivas USA in Game #2 of their Western Conference Semifinal Series at The Home Depot Center. In accordance with team and league regulations, details of the loan agreement were not released.

"We are pleased to finalize David's loan to AC Milan and we look forward to his return to the Galaxy after the 2010 World Cup," Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena said.

Following the conclusion of the MLS season, Beckham and the rest of the Galaxy, will travel to Germany for the club's 2009 Postseason Tour presented by Herbalife, which will conclude on December 2. Beckham will officially join AC Milan on December 28 and remain with the club throughout their season which ends on May 16, 2010. He will then re-join the Galaxy when the summer transfer window opens in July 2010.

"After the wonderful experience of last season we are very happy to see David Beckham again wearing the red and black colors," said Adriano Galliani, Vice President and CEO of AC Milan. "We are confident his loan spell will not only improve Milan, it will help the player to take part in the World Cup in South Africa and continue to enhance his career in North America with the LA Galaxy. We would like to thank the Galaxy and MLS for their co-operation and understanding."

The Galaxy's Designated Player, Beckham signed with the club in January 2007 before making his Galaxy debut in a friendly against Chelsea in July of that year. In three seasons with the club, Beckham has appeared in 41 MLS games, tallying seven goals and 15 assists. He missed the first half of the 2009 MLS season while on loan to AC Milan, but returned to the Galaxy in July. Beckham appeared in and started 11 games for the club, helping the team record a 6-2-3 record in games that he played in. Beckham scored two goals and added three assists this season and has played an important role in leading the Galaxy back to the playoffs for the first time since 2005.

"I need to give myself the best chance possible to make the World Cup squad and playing for Milan on loan will help me to do that," Beckham said. "I genuinely enjoyed my time at Milan and I look forward to meeting the players and staff again. I'm thankful to Tim Leiweke and Bruce Arena for allowing me this opportunity. I'm committed to LA Galaxy and MLS in the long term and remain as passionate as ever about growing the game of soccer in America. I'm completely focused on ending this season on a high note with my club by winning the MLS Cup."

A three-time World Cup veteran with the English National Team, Beckham has collected 115 caps, giving him the record for the most caps by a field player in England history. Prior to joining the Galaxy, he spent his club career with Manchester United and Real Madrid, winning six English Premier League titles and one Spanish La Liga crown.

Tickets are now available for the Galaxy's home playoff game on Sunday, November 8 against Chivas USA. The game, which is presented by Pechanga Resort kicks off at 4:30 p.m. (PT) at The Home Depot Center. THIS IS MILAN!

THIS IS MILAN!
10/22/2009 12:01:00 AM
Adriano Galliani and coach Leonardo after the great joy tell how the team arrived to the feat of Madrid. The club and the group are always united and aware of the project’s strength.

MADRID – At the end of the marvellous win of Madrid, these are the declarations of the club in the words of Adriano Galliani and coach Leonardo: “Great evening, but last night we understood that there was optimism with regards to this game. We often look at Real and see a great team who scores but also concedes many goals. It went well, but we played a great game, no doubt. The team was never satisfied with the draw, we scored four goals in the second half. The goal which was disallowed was valid. The referee mistakes must be accepted without controversies. Pato? He’s a young champion, these lads have highs and lows, it’s normal to expect this from them, but our luck is that Alexandre is our player, our champion. Tonight I text messaged our president who was in Russia, at every result change I sent him a message with all the scorers.” “I think that the coach has his role, his merit, his ability to organize a group and motivate him. However today the win is of the team, it’s clear. Redeeming certain values was an enormous response from all of the lads. Tonight’s win arrived after another win, against Roma. We were born for the 4-3-3 and during this season for various difficulties it was not possible to play it, but then the win against Roma gave us courage. The squad backed my project, we had difficult situations and today it was a game which was too delicate to get it wrong. The president is always very close to us, there have been difficult moments, but the harmony with the club has always been there. I’m happy because Milan never showed signes of not being able to win this game. Also when one goal behind we tried to find the win, this is our real great spirit.”

Indahnya Kematian-Kahlil Gibran

kerana kedua bola mata ini telah teramat lelahnya;
Biar sajak-sajak bersalut perak bergetaran dan menyejukkan jiwaku;
Terbangkan dawai-dawai harpa dan singkapkan tabir lara hatiku.
Nyanyikanlah masa-masa lalu seperti engkau memandang fajar harapan dalam mataku,
kerana makna ghaibnya begitu lembut bagai ranjang kapas tempat hatiku berbaring.
Hapuslah air matamu, saudaraku,
dan tegakkanlah kepalamu seperti bunga-bunga menyemai jari-jemarinya menyambut mahkota fajar pagi.
Lihatlah Kematian berdiri bagai kolom-kolom cahaya antara ranjangku dengan jarak infiniti;
Tahanlah nafasmu dan dengarkan kibaran kepak sayap-sayapnya.
Dekatilah aku, dan ucapkanlah selamat tinggal buatku.
Ciumlah mataku dengan seulas senyummu.
Biarkan anak-anak merentang tangan-tangan mungilnya buatku dengan kelembutan jemari merah jambu mereka;
Biarkanlah Masa meletakkan tangan lembutnya di dahiku dan memberkatiku;
Biarkanlah perawan-perawan mendekati dan melihat bayangan Tuhan dalam mataku,
dan mendengar Gema Iradat-Nya berlarian dengan nafasku..

Sajak Suara, Wiji Thukul

Sajak Suara

sesungguhnya suara itu tak bisa diredam
mulut bisa dibungkam
namun siapa mampu menghentikan nyanyian bimbang
dan pertanyaan-pertanyaan dari lidah jiwaku

suara-suara itu tak bisa dipenjarakan
di sana bersemayam kemerdekaan
apabila engkau memaksa diam
aku siapkan untukmu: pemberontakan!

sesungguhnya suara itu bukan perampok
yang ingin merayah hartamu
ia ingin bicara
mengapa kau kokang senjata
dan gemetar ketika suara-suara itu
menuntut keadilan?

sesungguhnya suara itu akan menjadi kata
ialah yang mengajari aku bertanya
dan pada akhirnya tidak bisa tidak
engkau harus menjawabnya
apabila engkau tetap bertahan
aku akan memburumu seperti kutukan

The Hall of Fame

History San Siro stadium

History

The history of the San Siro stadium

A gift from Pirelli

The San Siro (named after the saint who had a chapel dedicated to him in this suburb) stadium was a gift from the Milan president Piero Pirelli (in charge from 1909 for twenty years) to 'his Milan'. The stadium was built in just 13 and a half months, thanks to the work of 120 construction workers. The total cost of the operation came to five million lire which in today's terms would translate to three and a half million euro. The stadium was designed by Ulisse Stacchini, the architect whose other major work in the city was the Milan Central Station, and renowned engineer Alberto Cugini.

The inauguration

The San Siro was designed on the English model for stadiums, solely for football with four stands holding a capacity of 35,000 spectators. It opened on 19 September 1926, when a packed stadium watched Inter defeat Milan 6-3. The first league game was played on September 19, 1926 when Milan lost 2-1 to Sampierdarenese while the first international took place on February 20, 1927 and Italy drew 2-2 with Czechoslovakia. Until the end of 1945, the San Siro remained the exclusive property of Milan while Inter played their home games at the Arena in the centre of the city. The 'Theatre of Football' has gone under numerous renovations since then to create the imposing monument to the game it is today.

The first expansion

Milan sold the stadium to the city council in 1935 and three years later the decision was taken to develop the stands. Football had become more and more of a mass phenomenon so the San Siro had to be expanded to meet the demand. Architect Rocca and engineer Calzolari were given the task and they took advantage of the pre-existing structure that supported the interior to build an external ramp to enable access into the stadium. In 1952, the capacity was originally set at 150,000 but after discussions with the city council that figure was rejected. After spending 5.1 million lire on the modernisation of the stadium, the inauguration took place on May 13, 1939 when Italy drew 2-2 with England. Gate receipts for that game came to 1.2 million lire.

The second development

Work on the second expansion of the stadium started in 1954 and 12 months later, on October 26, 1955, it was opened with a capacity of 85,000. The first set of floodlights were installed in 1957 and the electronic scoreboard followed in 1967. The floodlights were modernised in 1979 when the second tier was developed. The stadium was officially renamed in honour of Giuseppe Meazza, the famous Inter and Milan player of the 1930s and 1940s, on March 3, 1980. In 1986, the first tier became an all-seated numbered and coloured section. The main central stand became red, the stands around and facing that, orange, the north stand behind the goal, green and the south stand where the Milan fans gather, blue.

The third ring

For the event of the Football World Cup 1990, the Municipality of Milan decided to proceed with the refurbishment of the “Meazza” stadium after they turned down the idea of building a new stadium due to reasons of high costs and limited time available. The first idea is to design a futuristic and stunning project: the construction of the third ring and the roof to cover all the spectators. The project, design by Architect Giancarlo Ragazzi, Architect Enrico Hoffer and Engineer Leo Finzi, consists of the construction of a third ring of stands, resting on indipendent supports designed around the existing stadium.
The structure of the new third ring rests on eleven cylindrical towers in reinforced concrete. These towers also provide access to the stands and various services and are indipendent from the existing construction. Four of these towers also support the reticular beams of the roof. To give maximum comfort all the new seats placed are ergonomic, numbered and colored in four different colors to identify the four main sectors of the stadium. The 85.700 spectators are all covered with a roof made of curved shelters of polycarbonate. Furthermore was installed a new drainage and heating system and a new flood lighting system. In june the 8th 1990 the stadium hosted the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup with the match Argentina vs Camerun. Since then the “Scala del Calcio” host the passions of millions of fans. During the summer 2008, due to the construction works to meet the new Uefa standards, the stadium capacity has become 80.018 spectators.

The figures

To complete the construction, 10,000 quintals of cement, 3,500 cubic metres of sand and 1,500 quintals of iron were needed. In order to mark out the pitch, 80kg of chalk is needed to cover a dimension of 105 metres long and 68 metres wide. The perimeter beams are 204 by 296 metres and weigh 1,100 and 2,000 tonnes, respectively. The roof is covered with 256 floodlights, emitting 3,500 watts. In order to carry out the main construction, two 64-metre high cranes were purposely installed. Inside the stadium, there are emergency exits and a service elevator with a weight capacity of 1,000 kg. The San Siro stadium is situated across from the city race course and is six kilometres from the centre of Milan.

Not only football

The San Siro stadium is a symbol of Milan (such as the Scala and the Duomo) and it’s famous not only for football but for other great events that made is history. For example the boxing match between Duilio Loi and Carlo Ortis (September 1st, 1960), a return match for the world title of welter junior. There were 53.043 people, 8 thousand near the boxing ring for the occasion. That match was won by the Italian and it yielded 130 millions. The stadium has hosted some musical concerts too. Bob Marley (June 27th, 1980) presented his show under the North Curve. There were 90 thousands people to greet the Jamaican musician. The same hail was shown for Bruce Springsteen (1985). The Red Stand has hosted even an open-air disco. Now, under the South Curve, there is a museum that follows all the A.C. Milan and Inter F.C. history through the memorabilia of the people who made that history. The stadium is visited by 50 thousand of people when there’s no matches. Since July 1st, 2000 San Siro is managed jointly by A.C. Milan and Inter F.C..

ACMilan Junior

Dear Friend,

Last sport season more than 150.000 kids took part as protagonists into “ACMilan World” thanks to the initiatives of The ACMilanJunior, an articulated program of events and activities created by ACMilan with the purpose to actively involve all boys and girls under 18 years old.

ACMilan Junior is composed of: all teams of ACMilan Youth Sector, all associated teams belonging to ACMilan Scuola Calcio, Milan Junior Camp, Sunday Camp, Milan per la Scuola and many other events of pure entertainment, such as Milan Park and Milan Generation Club.

The increasing attention towards new generations underlines the strong desire of AC Milan to associate top level soccer and a program realized to answer the needs of kids who play soccer for the first time and of boys and girls who already practice it, trying to transmit them all a positive model of life.

I, indeed, strongly believe that young people should practice this sport enjoying themselves, learning to socialize with team mates and new friends and to measure themselves with victories and defeats.

Enjoy a great time with the activities of ACMilan Junior and …FORZA MILAN!!!

Paolo Maldini

Captain of ACMilan
