Squad Selector | | ||||||||||||||||
With the World Cup fast approaching, all eyes will be on Marcello Lippi as he begins to draw up his provisional and then final squad for South Africa. The Commissario Tecnico has gone through the roll call of Italian talent, testing out left-backs, wingers, forwards and personalities in anticipation of creating a squad worthy of defending the trophy. There are 16 players who, fitness permitting, seem assured of a spot on the plane, but with potentially over three-dozen footballers competing for the remaining seven places, Football Italia’s Squad Selector discusses the possible ins and outs, ultimately picking our final 23 in anticipation of the June 10 announcement. We will also take time to reflect on the roles some of Lippi’s guaranteed choices look set to play in the tournament, and ask whether some of the squad certainties should become first team favourites, and whether those with first XI expectations could or maybe should, make way for new Azzurri talent. | |||||||||||||||||
